Five Guys Bags | Enjoy Writing

sweetest invitation,
breaking the day in two
i'll wait for you
virginia moon - foo fighters
My mom carefully and happily my younger brother's returned school paper to me.  I think it's the best writing I've read all month.  Or maybe the most beautiful.  Or maybe just my favorite.  I don't know.  Most pre-teens, for a Thanksgiving assignment, would shoot off the easy ones "I'm thankful for my family, my friends, food and a home."  But then again, my brother isn't like most pre-teens.

I'm Thankful For... [By Little But Growing Brother]
I'm thankful for the sound when you open a Snapple, because it's refreshing and relaxing.  I'm thankful for every rainbow I see, because it's a promise from God.  I'm thankful for the people who rented our house, because they didn't use all the firewood we left and now we have some.  I'm thankful for my Call of Duty Modern Warfare games, because they give me some sense to the fact that our country could be attacked.  I'm thankful for today, because I got to experience another great day of my life.  I'm thankful for hearing my favorite song come on the radio because it relaxes me.  I'm thankful for the cold side of the pillow because it helps me sleep at night.  I'm thankful for every time something is cheaper than I thought it was, because it saves money.  I'm thankful for the amount of fries in a Five Guys bag, because it's more than I paid for.  I'm thankful for every time I'm early to somewhere, because I don't have to be nervous about being late.

Do you have any "random" but thoughtful grateful-s today?  Mine is probably the black shutters on our house.  I love black shutters.

If you haven't joined in the instagram/twitter Enjoy Project fun, you're missing out!  It's been so very fun to see all kinds of little joys: from flying kites, to training for races, to snuggling babies and making wontons!  Please join in, even once or twice.

Here's a little check-in of the fun:

Wearing: Miss Lydia donned an adorable outfit the first day of April!
Photobucket
Smelling: Few things beat the garlic-y, cheesy smell of simmering alfredo sauce. Good call, Ahepburnl!
Photobucket

Eating: Hannah Braboy enjoyed her "pocket full of sunshine" fruit.
Photobucket
Touching: After a scare with her kitty, Lydia Jane was happy to have him home from the vet!
Photobucket
Giving: Diehard Red-Sox fan and one of my favorite mommies says she loves "giving her son firsts."
Photobucket
(We have a few other baseball sluggers enjoying opening week!)

Hearing: With The Kooks on in the background, Ambrosiaaaa_ enjoyed her roadtrip.

JC Mays has had one of my favorite EnjoyProject feeds.  But this one of her mother and hearing "her sweet voice in her head" particularly captured me.
Photobucket
Drinking: Kelzai's picture of her daughter (years ago) melts my heart.  God is good.
Photobucket
Sometimes it's fun to get creative with the word of the day.  "Drinking" in the last few minutes of sunlight with my fiance'.
Photobucket
Using: Though I'm not the biggest "dog person," these couch potatoes cracked me up ;) Loved it, LydiasPics.
Photobucket
Looking at: Allix Ryan Brunson's bonfire picture made me salivate.  I love fire smells! And sights. And everythings.
Photobucket
What a sweet daddy/son shot of the guys looking at mommy.
Photobucket
Doing: Is bowling every a bad idea? I don't think so.  Allix Ryan Brunson knows whats up!
Photobucket
Waiting: Sweet wifey Allie Paredes took care of the car for her guy.  That's a woman right there ;)
Photobucket
Holding: The other night it felt incredible to "hold" onto childhood by playing foursquare until it was black outside.
Photobucket
NamieElle5 had a great point: "It's the small things that bring the biggest smiles."
Photobucket
Making: Kendall_Glab seems to be up to something fun.  Look what she's making!

You don't have to look far to find a reminder that "it's the little things in life."  I don't know if it's a new era of internet, blogging mama's and Pinterest that has this sunny quotes more accessible, or if because of this new era of technology that we feel we need to be reminded so often.

Maybe it's like a tall home? There are of course the monumental and symbolic floors of the house.  Graduation, marriage, children, the beginning of a particular career that took one's life a whole different direction, a significant move, buying a home, retiring. The big stuff. But the "little" stair steps that connect the floors are possibly more important than the floors themselves.

The teachers, who day in and day out nurtured and taught you, the friends who built and destroyed you, the restaurant that hosted a first date, the outfit that won and the clothes that were left behind on the floor for the same first date, the first kisses and "I love you's" and realizations, the happy friends who are so excited to throw you a shower (and the one scandalous friend we all have the offends your grandmother every other sentence), the belly that grew slowly but surely, the first time you went shopping and saw baby clothes and couldn't resist buying something - even a pair of socks - for your own child inside you, the trips to Home Depot, the hard hard hard hours late into the night, the excited unpacking and arranging your own home, when "your song" comes on the radio, you find out a friend is dating a really (actually truly) good guy, your guests loved the meal you made, friends bring you meal after meal during hard times, that really really good book you finished, when you wake up and actually love your job on a random Wednesday in the winter, he texted you during the day just because you're on his mind, your mom helps you with the things only moms can help with, and finding good deals at the grocery store so you can pay your rent and your taxes on time.

I'm passionate about caring for those little things because the big things would mean nearly nothing without them.  The things and stuff of life are often condemned as creating busyness, greed and selfishness.  Sure, of course they do sometimes.  But other times they are really, really good.

"I thank Thee for the temporal blessings of this world - the refreshing air, the light of the sun, the food that renews strength, the raiment that clothes, the dwelling that shelters, the sleep that gives rest, the starry canopy of night, the summer breeze, the flowers' sweetness, the music of flowing streams, the happy endearments of family, kindred, friends.

Things animate, things inanimate, minister to my comfort. My cup runs over. Suffer me not to be insensible to these daily mercies." (one of my favorite Puritan prayers.)

SO. As flowers bloom and light lingers longer we're going to share with each other little joys.  Each day in April will be focused on finishing this sentence: "Today I am enjoying __(verb)___ __(instagram pic)___."

Hashtag #enjoyproject and include @imkristen_ so I can see your picture!

Today I bring you not a collage with many photos, or a post with much to say.  I bring you one photograph from my past week.  It's one of my favorite pictures of he and I ever.  It sums "us" up so well.  My hair straightened (that's his favorite), he in a Patriots jersey (our new favorite team to cheer for thanks to the Shorey family of EGM), my new pink water bottle from Dre and Becca that I take with me EVERYwhere, little Jaxter trying to decide if he likes me (this little guy is the first baby among "my age" friends), snuggling on the couch, laptop in the background to sneak in a few minutes of work, that mistermister of mine falling asleep.  I love it.

You should follow Elizabeth on instagram (she took this photo and is the handsome baby's momma!)
- She has a way of making plain little things so memorable and lovely.
- She has been married for just over a year and also just became a mommy! It's fun to look into her fun, happy, new world.
- She is very loved by me. So, spread the love!

When you have a spare four minutes, enjoy this sweet, quirky, and loveable couple.  It's hard not to watch this and feel lighter and cheerful.  Happiness is contagious.

Enjoy Project | Instagram > 1

This is your FAIR WARNING.  Don't say I didn't "told you so!"  I am telling you so.  If you decide to take that giant leap and follow me on Instagram, there are a few cautions I must alert you to, some common "annoyances," if you will.

FAIR WARNING NUMBER ONE) I post about my relationship... a lot.  I post about carrying-on a bouquet of dried roses on an airplane, about missing him, pictures of him where I think he looks hoit hoit!, our texts, and our dates.  Okay?  If that is barf-ilicious, "so done" or annoying to you: you've been waaaaarned.  Also, we like cheesy/movie lines. We think they're great. We sometimes instagram them. It is what it is. Love us or leave us ooooor tolerate us.
Photobucket
FAIR WARNING NUMBER TWO) I post about food... a lot.  Eating is my second favorite part of life.  The jury is still out on what #1 is, but #2 is definitely food.  And sometimes since #1 is undecided, food takes it's place for a bit.  I eat a lot of food, I eat really good food, I make food, I buy food, I think about food, I thoroughly enjoy food, and I instagram food.  Get. Over. It.
Photobucket
FAIR WARNING NUMBER THREE) I post about babies and children... a lot.  If you aren't really a "kid person" or if you have no small children in your life, I understand why these might seem like redundant posts.  "How many times can you post that kid sleeping? Gracious."  Here's the deal:  Every instagrammed picture of a child represents at least nine other non-instagrammed moments.  And the moments are awesome.  And their faces, smells, discoveries and reality is just more then I can handle sometimes.  I love children.  (Especially Baby Behr, McKenna, Noah and Emma, Audrey, Addie, Makenna, Hailey and Selah, Emily and The Jaxter.)  I love children, believe children can change your life, believe they are important in their existence, brilliant in their naivete and wonderful in their lack of "productive-ness", and I instagram children.
Photobucket
FAIR WARNING NUMBER FOUR) Alright, this one is slightly different.  Instagram photos of landscapes seem to be more acceptable then the previous three.  But I'm not going to water this down: I am the girl who sees a sunset and whips out her phone for a great Instagram snap.  I'm one of the throbs of "Ah! Pink sky tonight! AWESOME!" in your feed after a grand sunset.  My b, myyyyyyy b (so people still say that?).  I just think they're really cool.  And I love the places I get to go and see... even if it's just a little ol' ride home from basketball practice turned watercolor melting sky explosion!

THE GOOD NEWS SECTOR!

- I do not instagram screen-caps of a quote I have in my iPhone notepad! Never have, never will.
- I do not instragram photographs of myself with a toilet in the background!
- I do not insagram myself in a bathroom. Ever.
- I do not instagram EVERY meal I eat.

The End. Still want to follow me?
