Life in Glen Ellyn, Illionis

So, I never really did a re-cap post about my time with the Barlow Family.
From August 9 - September 12 I lived with Sarah and her wonderful parents and siblings.

I have collected pictures from beginning to end of my trip. Now, some are cell-phone pics, some are Sarah's (aka: amazing) and some have been posted already. Just bear with me on all that, because I really want to post about my time!

Let me start this post with a little intro to the song... One of the first nights I was there, we were all cleaning the kitchen and singing to music. Someone turned on "Good Riddance" by Greenday, I was like "Oh! I love this song! I haven't heard it in forever!" Later I looked at the lyrics and I was sure that this song was written for me. For this trip. It fit perfectly!

Please read the words, cause they are just awesome!

"Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road"

Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.

So make the best of this test
and don't ask why.

It's not a question
but a lesson learned in time.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs
and still frames in your mind.

Hang it on a shelf
In good health and good time.

For what it's worth,
it was worth all the while.

It's something unpredictable
but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life."

Alright, here we go.... from the beginning!

I had just graduated highschool when I took my first trip to Chicago. I was thrilled beyond belief. Not at all nervous, just very excited! My mom, sister and I met the Barlows at their house for pizza. Conversation was so easy, they were so welcoming and kind - it was awesome! And it was the weirdest thing for me to meet Sarah, after reading her blog for over a year! I felt like I knew them all already!
"Hi Natalie, I'm Kristen and I loved the dress you wore to that dance... and your hair was fabulous! And JuliAnna has gotten so big.... since, uh, she was born."
Anyways, while I was there I assisted Sarah and her team at Liz and Logan's wedding.
It was incredible. The next day we did a photoshoot around Chicago, which was, again, incredible. Then, I left to go back home until August. I kept very busy, but all I could think about was going back for my internship! August 9th couldn't have come fast enough.
But, happily, it came :D
Sarah picked me up from the airport pretty early in the morning (my plane left at, like, 6:00 am or something crazy like that...) and my whirlwind life with Sarah begun!

We met with one of her friends for lunch and pictures, of course. Then, we came home and hung out with another group of friends at their house. I was losing it, so I took a nap, but when I got up, we headed out to see a movie and then back to another friends house to hang out.Day One. Done.

Haha, I could not have had a better introduction to my life with Sarah. She is go, go, go all the time. And I loved it! It was awesome! She planned a pool party for some friends a few nights later, and that was great meeting everyone (and hearing an Australian guy talk on the phone. Haha, funny story)

Also, we met up with Pete and Mike at a sushi place downtown. Mike is my best friends brother and happened to be in town, so that was random and fun!
Then, we started our work schedule. 5:30 wake-up time, devotions, work-out and then photography work. I am not going to go into detail with all that, but, it was excellent!Alright, one of the best parts of the trip was meeting the famous Olivia
Ollie, is... just basically awesome. I want kids like her :D
She is 4 going on 16, haha. She is very personable, creative, loud, hysterical and cute!
A lot of my time there was spent doing photobooth on my Mac with Ollie... too precious!I also met Brianna. And, ohmygoodness, she is the sweetest thing ever! She has such a passion for God and such a gentle, tender spirit. She was only in town for a few days, but I was encouraged and spurred on by her! (and, she has dimples!!!!!)I love you Brianna!

Ok, I am kind of jumping around here, but oh well. Let's see... Probably the highlight of my whole trip was our girls night in the city. Beth (oh, jeez, I haven't even mentioned her yet! Wow, yes, Beth is also amazing. Probably one of the hardest workers and most patient person I have ever met!) Morgan (Sarah's "September intern" who I just love so so so much), Brianna, Sarah and I went downtown all dressed up, ready for some fun!We all brought our cameras and took pictures all over the place, while trying to pick a place to eat. And then, over debating for a while, we chose to eat on top of the John Hancock building, at sunset. I wanted to cry of happiness when we got up there.
We had a table right by the window and I could see the water, the Navy Pier and big ferris wheel, and the whole skyline. It was all lit by the fading sun and then everything sparkled in the night with millions of lights. It was breathtaking - in every sense of the word.
Haha, however, I am not (NOT) used to fancy restaurants. I know I have never been in a place like that before - I think "Carrabba's" might be the nicest place I had. And I was such an idiot in there! I was using wrong forks, I ate the mashed potatoes with the serving spoon, I drank from the wrong cups, I was confused when they took my decoration plate away (who needs a decoration plate?), I had no idea what the ingriedients were in the food. Sarah and I split our meal and I was shocked when they brought our food out on separate plates - like, we didn't need to split it ourselves. I was out of place for sure! Then, to top the night off, Sarah's car broke down in the most sketch area ever! It was so like a movie - four girls all dressed up in a bad area of town when BMW breaks down. Then it started to rain. We were out until almost 2 am. Mr. Barlow and Andrew had to come save us. We were pretty helpless :D
Regardless, we had a fantastic time!
{Oh, and this is one of my fave pics of me and Sarah, from that night}
And, the next night we went to a big-dance-graduation party.
(This was the night that Brianna and I had our looooong talk :D We aren't super into dancingOkay. Next topic.
The great thing about interning with Sarah is that it was so practical for me! She has 9 people in her family, just like me, and I got to see exactly how to handle running a business while being home with all the kiddos.

One thing we decided was that we needed to get cute aprons to wear while we made dinner. Not gonna lie - I LOVE my apron! Sarah bought it for me too :DThey had a Young Women's Meeting at their house the night I got my apron. Yeah, I totally wore it the entire meeting.
Sarah is just too fun :DOk, time for Natalie. Natalie was my surprise in Chicago.
I love her so much! I was totally not expecting to leave having her as a great friend.
I mean, I was expecting it with Sarah, and I was expecting to like Natalie, but I never thought we would get as close as we did!
I had so much fun talking with her, laughing with her and just seeing how she - at such a young age - is thinking through life decisions and really striving to be wise. I so appreciate that about her!
Love you Natalie!

Now for Morgan!
Morgan is just great. I am not even kidding. I don't think that anyone on the planet can not like Morgan. She made me laugh so hard! She loves "Big Girls Don't Cry" and is proud of it, she loves her family with all her heart, she loses all sense of direction when driving and just knows how to enjoy life =)
I love you Morgan! One of the hugest thing that being with Sarah did for me was give me an identity in the photography world. I e-mail people now and say "I am Kristen, Sarah Barlow's intern" and I get responses from big-time people!
I was on David Jay's blog while I was there and meeting everyone in New York was all because of Sarah and her network of friends. I cannot thank her enough for being so willing to help me on way!

Also, I got to hang out with her cousins, which is the band BarlowGirl.
I slept over at their house, got our hair done together and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed at Lauren (the drummer).Alright. Sarah's turn.

Sarah. Where do I start?

I am going to try to be quick, but, I want you to know that I learned so much from you. But, the two biggest things I learned from watching you up close and personal are these: 1) Be very generous and 2) Enjoy God.

1. Sarah is probably the most generous person I know. She gives and gives and gives and has such a great time giving. I love that. And I love how God is blessing her for "holding loosely the things of this world." She had eternal rewards in mind, and lives her life to bless people.
2. Sarah has this incredible relationship with God. I am not quite sure how to explain it, but she is (excuse the cliche-ness) on fire for God. She loves to talk to Him, talk about Him and to live for Him.
She never seems burdened with her faith - she is just full of joy and in love with her Lord.Thank you, Sarah, for teaching more than you can ever know!
I love you!

And , to the rest of the Barlow family:
Mr. Barlow - Thank you for opening up your home to me and for leading your family so well. You are Sarah's hero!
Mrs. Barlow - Thank you for your desire to grow closer to God and to do your job as wife and mom excellently. I respect you so much!
Andrew - Thank you for being so willing to help me - despite how busy you are! You are such a hard worker.
Mark - Thank you for being such a mature servant. You are selflessly and quietly glorifying God through your life.
John - Thank you for loving your siblings so much - especially JuliAnna! I love that you totally welcomed me into your life and were quick to help me.
Jules - "You are the preciousest!"

Engagement Shoot - for real, kind of

I did Mark and Brandy's wedding in September. We couldn't get a date for their engagement shoot before the big day, so we opted to do a lovely fall shoot at Harper's Ferry (where they actually got engaged)!
It was unbelievable! They are so fun, so happy and I just enjoyed every second of our time.

You and Me:: Lifehouse
(and "their" song :D)

What day is itAnd in what monthThis clock never seemed so aliveI can't keep up
And I can't back downI've been losing so much timeCause it's you and me And all of the peopleWith nothing to doNothing to loseAnd it's you and me and all of the peopleAnd I don't know whyI can't keep my eyes off of youAll of the things that I want to say
Just aren't coming out rightI'm tripping inwardsYou got my head spinningI don't know where to go from hereCause it's you and me and all of the peopleWith nothing to do
Nothing to proveAnd it's you and me and all of the peopleAnd I don't know whyI can't keep my eyes off of youThere's something about you nowI can't quite figure outEverything she does is beautiful
...

And I don't know why
I can't keep my eyes off of you

....

Oh. My. Wow.

I love my life! I just love it! I could not ask for a single thing - I truly, truly am living the life of my dreams. I am so blessed! And, New York City, yes, it is awesome. Alright here is the load down on some of what we have done...
So, the big names:

Well, Lydia finally met Sarah :DI met Jessica Claire!!! For those who don't know, she is basically my photography hero. I found her blog (as well as DJ and Becker's blogs) and my mind was made up. I knew I wanted to do photography. Their work is so inspiring and emotion-filled. I just love love love their stuff.
Anyways, it was very exciting to finally meet her! Oh, and she is simply awesome.I bought a ShootSac at her booth:

We also met Bob Davis (who is Oprah's photographer and shot Tony Parker and Eva Longoria's wedding. BIG time!)Becker. What else can I say? This guy has a phenomonal personality and is just hysterical! We had a good time with him!
"Aaaaaahh! David Jay!" I was getting excited :DDJ is a wonderful, caring guy and has been so kind to me! I really appreciate his care for up
and coming photographers - it means the world! Thank you!Ok, soooo, lets back track...

Before we were rubbing elbows with all the celebs, we ate at this awesome little breakfast place. It could not have been more "New York". A little Meditteranean place where the chef comes out, with his heavy NewYorker accent, and says "Ohhaaw. Don't look at the menu. Just tell me what you want! I will make anything you want! Like, you know, when you wake-up in the morning and your mom is making you your favorite breakfast - just tell me! I will make anything for you." We liked him :D

The famous Dane Sanders ate with us, which was a treat! He even offered to let me shoot an engagement session with him! I am pretty siked! He is so kind! After our fabulous breakfast, we headed off to the Expo. All happy and giddy. Ok, so the place is HUGE. It is literally like the size of a city-block. Thousands of photographers. I felt like a little fish in the ocean, and VERY out of place and nervous!
Here are some stylin' shots of Sarah:
And, uh, our sore but cute feet.At the ShootSac booth, I got this awesome flamingo. It made my day! I carried that thing around all day! I got so many questions and inquiries about it. I felt slightly important :D Oh, and at lunch, I def tripped the waiter with it. My bad :D
I love my flamingo.
I really did.
A lot.
So did Natalie.
And the KubotaMan.... weird.
Cuteness.
Aaaaand, the guy behind me is a very big deal in the photographer world. His name is escaping me and Sarah is sleeping, so I will get on that tomorrow.
But, his studio shoots over 500 weddings A YEAR. Pretty crazy!
This picture just made me smile. Lydia and I both saw the man sitting there under the sign. She liked how his knees were, I liked the colors. So we each have our own version of this picture:Come back later to hear about the rest of our day, including the firemen at our hotel, the party with DJ, Jessica and Becker, limo's and a photoshoot in Time Square! It was been quite a day!

My bad.

Hey, I know I haven't been posting a ton... and I have lots and lots to post! I am doing a quick little "here's my excuse post" and tomorrow I am really going to try to get my engagement shoot up of Jessi and Dan - you two have been waiting over a week! Thank you! It's coming and its my biggest post ever (over 80 pics!)

But, some of what has been keeping me busy is this:
Coaching the middle school at CLS. *sigh* My little cougar cubs.... haha :DMay I introduce Coach Caitlin (she is awesome) and Coach Kristen. (so fun to say)We are pretty terrible, but, hey - at least we are a lot of fun being really bad!The nice thing about being the worst (we have been outscored 40-0. Yes. Zero.) is that there is nowhere to go but up. We get to be the underdogs and the underdogs always have more fun trying to knock off the best teams. I think that in the next few years this team is going to come a long way! Our team is young, energetic and enthusiastic. Its gonna be good :D
I love the girls so much and they make me laugh - hard. So, here's my shout-out to Jenna, Kia, Skylar, Kimmie, Amanda, Emily P, Emily B, Charity, Rebekah, Jessi, Kara, Sophia, Danielle, Ashley and Kaitlyn!!! I love you girls!(And, after that phenom coaching, I do deserve a burger... haha)

The Winner!!!!

Hello Dear Friends of the World Wide Web (whoa. long time since I have heard that....)!

There is a winner for the contest!

Dum, da, da, da, dadaaaaaaa!

And it is :

Kelly Plunnecke
who nominated
her husband Mark!

Kelly has won a free shoot and album for her story!

However, I did promise that the runners-up would be announced as well.
So, the runners-up get an awesome prize. A free mini-shoot! Not a free album, but a short shoot.
See the bottom of this post for details :D hehe.

But, without further ado, Kelly's story:

"I saw this contest and immediately thought this might be a way to bless
Mark. We never had engagement pictures, it never crossed our minds till
people recently started doing this more. And our wedding photographer,
was chosen by a family member who wanted to bless us by paying for it.However, the pictures were really bad. We have one tiny photo that is
the better then the rest but it is just on a shelf in the corner. Mark
has often regretted that we did not do things differently (as well as I!)"

{now, I need to pause right here and say that this is the main reason why Kelly won. I had the hardest time choosing. It was nearly impossible. I seriously actually almost cried when I realized I had to just pick one. But something really hit the photographer in me when I read this. I can really make a difference for this family!
There were so many people honored, and such seriously great stories. It was a blessing and encouragement to read each and every one!}

"Mark and I have been married for over 8 years. In some ways it seems
like just yesterday we exchanged our vows. Where have the years gone?""These 8 years have been the happiest of my life, maybe that is why they
have flown by. My love has only deepened for him over these years and
I am often amazed that he even asked me to be his wife."
"One more day
One more time
One more sunset,
Maybe I'd be satisfied

But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still,
For one more day with you"
"It's not that these past years have all been of ease and thus being
filled with joy, we have had our share of conflicts and trials. My
husband has humbly led us through these times. So often I have
responded to him in anger and impatience and he has patiently forbeared
with me, leading us through those times with much humility."
"Time and time again he has modeled Christ's love in our home. Over the years, Mark
has only grown in selflessness even though the years have brought more demands and one would want to justify selfishness." "First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second

Say a million 'I love you's'

Thats what I'd do,

With one more day with you"

"It recently has been most evident with the arrival of our 4th child (and first girl). Mark
has bent over backwards to serve me. When our first son arrived, and I
would ask Mark for help there were times where he would lack joy in
serving. But he has sought to grow in putting other's interests above
his own. It seems whenever I ask, there is such joy in caring for me and the children." " He is eager to serve and often initiating on his own. I am so grateful for a husband who loves Christ first and seeks Him for help to best love his family.""Thanks for the opportunity, even if we do not win (which I completely
understand!) it has been great to be able to write these thoughts down
so I can share this with my hubby. I know it will bless him regardless
of the outcome."

.: Kelly, thank you for honoring your husband :.
I hope you still have your wedding dress!

::Runners-Up::
Ok, my runners-up! Since I could not decide on just one or two, I chose to give a free mini-shoot to the rest of the people who entered! Over the next 6 months I will book and do a shoot with you - for free!
Marybeth, Casey, Naomi, Kendall, Ellie, Julie, Bob, Janet and Olivia - your stories were excellent and I would be honored to be able to do a shoot for you and your honoree!
After we do the shoots I will post their stories and pictures. Some made me cry, others made me laugh out loud. There are some excellent, excellent stories!

Congratulations everyone! And you will all be hearing from me soon!

Last call!!!!

Today is the last day to enter the contest! Hurry, hurry!!!

And, this picture was taken at a re-enactment that Mr. B was in at Mount Vernon.

I pretty much love it :D
"Where your hopes and dreams,
And wishes live,
Where you keep the rest of your life hid,
I want to know the girl
Behind that pretty stare
Take me there."

It reminds me of the Rascal Flatts song "Take Me There" which is the a teaser for me next post.... :D

Contest!

I have exciting news for you! Today I am introducing my first contest :D

Photography is so wonderful because it tells a story with no words. It makes you feel something by using your eyes, not your mouth. However, I am a big fan of words. I love to talk and read! So, this is the contest:

Send me an e-mail (kristenleighphotography@gmail.com) about a person you want to honor. Your fiance, spouse, parent, sibling, child, friend, relative - anyone! I want to know about that person from your point of view. I want to hear what is unique about them, why you respect them, why you love them!

I will pick from the stories and decide on a winner. The winner will win a free shoot (woot! woot!), if possible, with that person. However, I understand that locations will vary, so it might not be realistic. Nonetheless, you will win a shoot! An engagement, family, child, "friend" shoot all on me! And, I will post your story and a few pictures on my blog!
There will also be prizes for the runners-up :D
So, send me your stories and spread the word (esp. to those fiances...)! I cannot wait to hear the stories!

Meanwhile, here is my first "Honor" post for my dad and grandpa:

Enjoy! And, Dad, I hope you are honored.

~ George and Alan Snyder ~"An only child
Alone and wild""And he gave to me
A gift I know I never
Can repay"

The other day my dad was talking to me about something our family is working through. And he started to talk to me about his dad.
"My dad - no matter what I did - was there for me. He loved me with an unconditional love and I always knew that.""He tried to be a soldier once
But his music wouldnt wait"
My grandpa fought in World War Two in the Battle of the Bulge. I can't find any of his military pictures, but he was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. I am quite proud of him. When I was born my dad called his dad to let him know "It's a girl! She's here!" I have been told that the moment he heard that, he jumped into his car and drove from his home in New York, to ours in Kensington, Maryland. I have been told over and over how much he loved me and how excited he was to see me.My grandpa died when I was six. I don't remember a lot about him, but the memories I have are very strong ones.
I remember sitting on his lap in his family room, reading the only children's book he had, an original Bearenstein Bears. I sat on his "bad knee" at first, and I remember asking him about it and praying for him.
I remember singing "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" for him one bright afternoon and I remember, so clearly, that he was laughing very hard. The rest of the adults were quite annoyed, but he was giving me his full attention and I, to this day, love that about my grandpa. My grandpa loved - no, adored - sports. When my dad was in highschool, my grandpa would save everything that my dad had. We have in our basement boxes and boxes and boxes of newspaper clippings, tournament standings, pictures, awards, Letters from my dad's life.
"My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band"
That love of sports has been passed on :) But, so has the unconditional love.
I think it is hard for people to understand what happened when he started to coach me. Our relationship flourished. The lessons I learned from him - on and off the court - are literally life changing. I am brought to tears just thinking about the way my grandpa led my dad through sports, then my dad to me and my siblings. It is so very special to me and I only wish I could play for him more.

"The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through
My instrument
And his song is in my soul"

My dad was saved when he was in his young 20's. My grandfather, however, remained opposed. Both my dad and grandpa have lived incredibly hard lives. And both would seem like "that guy" who could never be saved.
But, God moved, and near the end of my grandpa's life, he was changed. Cancer humbled him in a new way, and my grandpa was weak. My dad still says that he has never seen a more changed person. Grandpa did not fully understand salvation and the work of the cross, but he knew he was a sinner and he knew that God had provided a Savior. It was basically as simple an understanding as possible, but it was all he needed.
Dad, I love you. I honor you. I want to live like you do. I could go on for hours about you, but I hope you know how very much I love you!
Grandpa, I wish that I could have know you better, but I am so proud of you. I cannot wait to see again!

I want to be a legacy of the lives of these two men.

Dude Ranch

...The Dude...
I am a huge country music fan and every now and then I come across songs that I just sing for days. I listened to "Cowboy Take Me Away" the other day and was like "Oh. My. Gosh. I need to do a shoot and use this song!" Happily, Dude cleared his schedule and modeled for me :D
Now, I have said it before and it will never change, but, I love this kid. So, so much.
All of these poses - yes, he did them himself. I literally did not tell him to do anything.
How stinking cute is he?!?!

I said I wanna touch the earthI wanna break it in my handsI wanna grow something wild and unrulyI wanna sleep on the hard groundIn the comfort of your armsOn a pillow of bluebonnetsIn a blanket made of starsOh, it sounds good to me I saidCowboy take me awayFly this girl as high as you canInto the wild blueSet me free, oh, I prayCloser to heaven above andCloser to you closer to youI wanna walk and not runI wanna skip and not fallI wanna look at the horizonAnd not see a building standing tallI wanna be the only oneFor miles and milesExcept for maybe youAnd your simple smileOh, it sounds good to meYes, it soundsSo good to meCowboy take me awayFly this girl as high as you canInto the wild blueSet me free oh I prayCloser to heaven above andCloser to you closer to you

Sometimes

During weddings I shoot, the person I love to be around the most is the bride. I love brides.
They are excited, beautiful and in love. Makes for awesome pictures :D
Well, the last wedding I did in Chicago was a little different. I was sent up to do the groom and his guys getting ready.
No big deal, the groomsmen seem fun... I'll get some of the bride after the wedding. But, being completely honest I was little "eeh" about doing the guys.
And this is where God comes in :)
I have never had so much fun doing a pre-wedding shoot! It was so fun!!!
The guys were really, really funny:I shot some new "favorites" pictures:And I got to know the groom! Haha, imagine that! I was so excited to see him so excited!
So all the guys and I arrive at the church.
Whoa. It was insane.
While we were waiting for the ceremony to start, all of us were waiting in this little side room.
And I got to see an even funnier side of the groomsmen. They were all sitting there talking about women - specifically engaged women. Two of the guys are engaged (well, three including the groom :D). They were making me laugh so hard!

"She asks me and asks me and asks me what I really want. And I tell her 'Babe, I really don't care. I want you to have whatever you want.' Then she says 'Okay, look at these three photographers. Who do you like better?' Then I pick one and she gets upset at who I pick because she doesn't like that one! Whhhyy they do that? Why do they ask questions they know the answer to? (turns to me) Why do you do that?"

"The dress kills me. She goes online and favorites her dress, saves a picture to the desktop, goes online and opens the site and looks at her dress. Then she says that I have been sneaking around looking at it! I don't care what her dress looks like! It's going to be white and she is going to look beautiful. I don't care about the cut and fabric of her big, white dress. We got in a fight last night because she thought I looked. I didn't look. I don't care! Then she was mad that I didn't care enough. Oh my gosh. I can't win!"

They were all chiming in and I was sitting just there laughing. Poor guys, so confused by the engaged woman :)

Eventually the ceremony began and Dana & Thomas were married. The wedding coordinator came and told me some news. She informed me that I was going to go to cocktail at the hotel with the VIP guests, instead of go to the post-wedding formals. Other than the bride, I love doing pictures of the couple. And this couple was doing formals in front of the Chicago skyline.
I was not super excited - at all. But, my job is to serve and be not a problem - at all.

So, I went in the limo with the grandparents, parents and other VIP guests.
Again, cue God.I thought I had fun with the guys, well, let me tell you, I had no idea what I was in for with the VIP's!

This is Birdie and she is just plain awesome:
This is Grandpa and he, also, is just plain awesome.
I spent the ride to the hotel talking and laughing, as I sat in a limo driving through the Chicago coastline at dusk. It was incredible.
Here is some more fun at the hotel:It was an amazing time - I will post more from this wedding, eventually.
But, part of the reason that I am doing this post now is because of a situation now.
I am having computer problems that no one can quite figure out (and, don't worry, all pictures are safe and sound :D). But, basically, Photoshop will not work. I am kind of stuck. I can't edit pictures, and I am piling up with more to do. It seems like an "eh" situation to me, but I can count on the "But, God" any moment now! I know that my trouble now is very, very small in the big scheme of life!
I know that everything is going to work out just fine :)
(So, when Photoshop is working again, I will edit all of these and re-post them!)

ps. I love this picture.
pps. I love the song for this post. It is Louis Armstrong's "Chicago Breakdown." So good, right?

Drumroll Please....

Ladies and Gentleman....

It is here.

Kristen Leigh Photography has a website :D

Special thanks to Andrew and Matt, who did a fabulous job making it!
And Sarah, who did most of the designing!

One more thing :D
I have a new "intern". Chavia is coming over to learn from me (basically everything I just learned from Sarah - haha). So, today we started Chavia's blog. Go check it out and give her some support, because she is awesome!

Brandy & Mark

Yesterday I did my 6th wedding in 5 weeks. This is also my first wedding since officially being back from my internship in Chicago. I am going to dedicate a whole post to that in the near future. And, yes, my website is still coming! One more section to complete and it should be up...
Back to Brandy & Mark :D
I was watching the way that Brandy would talk about Mark. And the way that Mark would care for Brandy.
I had the thought that these two really respect each other. They are obviously madly in love, but they honor each other - greatly. It is hard to explain, but it is very cool how God brought them together and how grateful they are for each other!
I am working on my slideshow, but until then, here are some of my favorites of the bride and groom:

Almost Home!

So, in a few short days I will be home from my internship in Chicago.

That is a :) and a :( for me
Right now we are shopping this insane outdoor-mall in Chicago at the Apple store. The new ipod's are pretty nice.

Here is me, Babar and Mrs. Kennedy.
This is a boy. I have no idea who he is, but, he took his pic on the photobooth a few days ago.
And, it made me laugh
Align RightBye!

Breathless

It was amazing.
The word "amazing" gets used a whole lot.
But, I mean it exactly as Webster defined it.

"Amazing:
astonishing; startlingly impressive"

Erin and John are best friends who are in love.
John is a true gentleman - to everyone - but especially to Erin. He really treats her like a princess; like royalty.
Erin adores John. I love how she will just stare at him, smiling, then just give him a big hug!
As a couple, they are classy, graceful, fun and GORgeous!

Their first dance was to Allison Krauss's "When You Say Nothing At All"
- which is top, top, top of romantic songs! I love it!

And they fit it perfectly :D

Janine & Brian

I absolutely loved my last bride and groom. Loved them.

Let me introduce the rest of you to them:

Janine: She is just a ball of energy. She is has this amazing, huge smile. She laughs loud, loves hard and is just plain excited about life.

Brian: He isn't shy or quiet, but is more laid back. He is peaceful and very kind. He is so gentle with Janine and often I would watch them together - she would be talking, and laughing, and moving all around, and he would stand there, smiling, just watching her.

They were just so sweet!
(and the story of how they met! jeez, seriously like a movie! I'll have to post that soon)

Farewell :D

*EDIT* I was tagged by Sarah to do an "8 things" post. I posted on the Staying at Sarah's blog, if you feel like checking it out :D *

I am leaving for Chicago once again. I shall return, in 17 days, a much better photographer and business person (we hope...).

To all of my clients who are patiently waiting for pictures - thank you!
I so appreciate your understanding as I am working through this very abnormal summer!

And, I thought I would share a little story:

Since I was not at home for my birthday, my family had my birthday dinner tonight.
Mom made my favorite dinner, the Ladies set the table, Shannon prayed (she was very concerned about safety tonight.... "Please keep Kristen safe. I hope she is safe. Help whoever drives her be safe. Thank you for keeping us safe. Amen.")
Then we began the Alphabet game tradition.
I'm not entirely sure when this tradition began, but it feels like a really, really long time ago.
Basically you go around the table, starting with Dad, saying something you like, appreciate or remember about the birthday child.
Dad starts with "A", the person next to him does "B", etc, etc

So, here are some of my "honorings" (This is pretty much why I just adore my family)

Dad: "Always cheerful"
Shannon: "oBeys."
Mom: "Your word is Beys, Shannon? That does not make sense"
(we laugh)
Mom: "hmmm. C...? Cheerful always. No I'm kidding."
Kevin: "Oh! I know one for C! Do 'Christful'!"
Dude: "That is not a word, stupid."

Katie: "Hahahahah! Yes! I am F! I know what my word is. Fat! But, it's your birthday, so I will say funny, instead"

Kevin: "I can't think of anything for H. Wait, I know, I know. Grateful."
Mom: *rolls eyes*
Kevin: "Hold on. H. HOLY!"
Me: "That doesn't...."
Mom: "Only God is holy. Say happy or something."
Kevin: "oh. Happy."

Dad (on Q): "Quick to judge. Juuust kidding. uuuh, Quiet and gentle spirit."
Me: "Wow. Thanks Dad."
Dad: "I take that back. Quick to judge. I'm keeping that one."

Kevin: "X is too hard."
Mom: "eXciting, or eXtra special."
Kevin (whispers to me): "But you aren't."
Dad: "Xylophone!"
Katie: "foXy!"
Kevin: "Fine. eXtra eXciting, kind of."

I love 'em!

Two wedding posts are coming up, and make sure you see Gage's post below!
